Two separate fires broke out in Male’ City on Wednesday, both in warehouse areas, leading to emergency response from Maldives National Defence Force and other agencies.

The first fire started in the morning at a warehouse in Huvafenee Goalhi, near the Galolhu Mortuary. It was reported at around 10:57 am and brought under control at approximately 11:52 am, after about an hour of firefighting. Videos shared on social media showed large flames and thick black smoke rising from the building. A female police officer who responded to the scene suffered smoke inhalation and is currently receiving treatment. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Later in the evening, another fire broke out at around 9:30 pm in a warehouse on Izzuddin Magu, near Thoiba Mosque in the Maafannu ward. Emergency teams, including MNDF and the National Disaster Management Authority, responded and worked to contain the fire. As of now, there is no confirmed information about injuries or the extent of damage.

These incidents come just days after other fires in the country, including the ADh. Dhigurah fire that killed five Bangladeshi workers and injured two others, and a house fire in Hulhumale’ that displaced seven people. The recent increase in such incidents is raising concern about fire safety, especially in crowded areas like Male’.
