The Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim, shared the update during a press conference at the President’s Office.

Construction of the museum is already underway. The minister said work on the project is expected to move faster in the coming months, and much of the museum could be finished by the end of the year.

The museum will focus on the Maldives’ long maritime history, which goes back about 4,000 years.

Visitors will learn about:

  • Maldivian culture and traditions
  • The country’s history with the sea
  • Important historical places and stories

Museum will also help promote heritage tourism, which means visitors can learn more about the Maldives’ culture and history when they visit the country
