Construction work has started to build a new campus for Maldives National University in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll.

The project was officially launched by the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar.

The construction work is being carried out by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project was handed over during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Eydhafushi last year.

The new campus will include several buildings for students and staff. These include:

  • A two storey student accommodation building
  • A two storey staff accommodation building
  • A two storey administrative block
  • A two storey classroom building
  • A two storey academic facility building

The entire project is expected to take about two years to complete.

Having a university campus on the island will give students in the atoll more opportunities to continue their education without having to travel far.
