
A total of 74 cases of child abuse were reported last month, according to the Ministry of Family Development.
What types of abuse were reported?
The most common case was child neglect, with 21 reports, including 12 boys and 9 girls.
Other cases included 13 sexual abuse cases, 12 physical assaults, and 11 cases of psychological harm. There were also 9 cases where children witnessed domestic violence.
There were also a small number of other forms of abuse reported.
Other concerns reported
The ministry also recorded 18 cases related to children’s behaviour, with many involving children refusing to attend school.
In addition, 33 family related cases were reported, mostly linked to child care concerns.
There were also 48 cases of gender based and domestic violence, along with cases related to care, assistance, and healthcare.
Support services provided
As of the 28th of the month, 152 children were in state care.
During the same period, the ministry’s helpline received 1,802 calls. Counselling services were provided to 82 people, and 57 people received psychosocial support.
These numbers show the importance of protecting children and supporting families. Reporting concerns and seeking help early can make a big difference in keeping children safe.
