Maldivians now have the chance to apply for the Australia Awards Scholarships to study in Australia.
The scholarships are funded by the Australian Government and support students who want to continue their education and help develop Maldives.
Applications are open for study starting in 2027, and the deadline to apply is April 30, 2026.
What the scholarship offers
The Australia Awards Scholarships allow Maldivian students to study for a full time master’s degree in Australia.
The programme is open to people working in the public sector, private sector and civil society.
The goal is to help participants gain knowledge and skills that can contribute to the development of Maldives.
Studying at universities in Australia
Australia is home to many highly ranked universities around the world.
In 2026, a total of 20 Maldivians began their master’s degree studies in Australia through the Australia Awards programme.
Students study in different universities and gain international learning experiences.

Applicants can study subjects connected to two main development areas:
Effective and Accountable State
Resilient Community and State
Examples of fields include law and justice, as well as creative areas such as animation and visual effects.
Experiences of scholarship students
Ismail Mohamed Zayan, who began studying a Master of Development Studies at the University of Melbourne in 2026, said the scholarship opened many opportunities for him.
He explained that studying in Australia allowed him to experience new cultures, meet new friends and explore different opportunities.
A global network of alumni
Students who complete the programme become part of the Australia Awards alumni network.
This network allows graduates to stay connected with professionals and take part in future training and networking opportunities.
