Applications have opened for the third intake of Maldives National Service, a programme introduced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The programme aims to help young people develop discipline, responsibility, and skills to serve the country.

According to the Ministry of Defence, young people aged between 16 and 27 can apply for the programme.

Those under 18 years old can also apply if they are in good health and have permission from their legal guardian.

The National Service programme lasts three months.

Training for the third intake will begin in the last week of May at the MNDF Composite Training Center in Lh. Maafilaafushi.

A total of 350 trainees from 108 islands joined the first intake. Among them were 64 women and 286 men, with an average age of 18. Out of the 350 trainees, 346 successfully graduated in December.

The first group of trainees began the programme in October 2025.

The second intake of 350 trainees left for training in Maafilaafushi on January 24.

The government plans to train about 1,000 young people through the National Service programme this year.
