The government of the Maldives has announced that government offices will close during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared the last 10 days of Ramadan as public holidays. The decision reflects the importance of Ramadan and supports people who wish to spend more time on prayer and religious activities during the final days of the holy month.

Government offices have been asked to make their own arrangements to ensure that important public services continue during this time.

Each office is responsible for organizing staff and services so that essential work can still be carried out.

In 2026, the holy month of Ramadan began on February 18.

Schools closed earlier on February 26, after holding classes for about a week following the start of Ramadan.

According to the school academic calendar, classes will begin again on March 23.

The government also declared the last 10 days of Ramadan as public holidays in the previous year.
